Whether it\u2019s sadness, anger, fear or disappointment: some emotions seem to be stuck and simply refuse to go away. And some emotions are so persistent that you can even start to feel physical pain. But why is it actually so difficult, and what can you do to support this process? In this blog, I\u2019ll take you on a journey into the world of letting go.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Emotions and their function<\/em><\/h2><p>Emotions exist for a reason. They are signals from our body and mind that are trying to convey something to us. Sadness is a way of coming to terms with a loss, anger indicates that your boundaries have been crossed, and fear warns us of danger. So emotions certainly do have a function. And not just any function, but a very important one.<\/p><p>Precisely because they are so important, our brain may hold on to them as a form of self-protection. The idea of letting go can sometimes feel as though we are ignoring or suppressing the emotion. But in fact, it is simply our body\u2019s way of signalling that we need to pay attention again for a moment.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Old patterns and experiences<\/em><\/h2><p>It is often past experiences that trigger the emotions we find so difficult to let go of. A disappointment, rejection or pain that we\u2019ve never fully come to terms with, or a situation that still causes you a great deal of distress. These are the kinds of old wounds. It\u2019s as if those feelings get stuck in our system. If you don\u2019t deal with them, you may eventually even start to experience physical pain.<br>Sometimes those feelings suddenly resurface when a situation arises that is even slightly similar. Our bodies remember emotions, even when our rational mind thinks it\u2019s all long over.<\/p><p>But letting go of emotions isn\u2019t just difficult because it involves old pain. We can also start to identify with the pain, as if the emotion defines who we are. You are no longer sad; you are sadness itself. And when you have to let go of that emotion, it can feel as though you have to give up a part of yourself. Who are you once you\u2019ve healed?<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Letting go of emotions<\/em><\/h2><p>Sometimes it seems safer to hold on to an emotion. It may also have been a survival mechanism during your childhood. Think of a violent childhood, in which anger offered you a sense of security. Letting go of that anger now, because it no longer serves you, is also a form of letting go of control. And that\u2019s something we find incredibly difficult to do.<\/p><p>Letting go of control, allowing yourself to let go completely and working through an emotion is something we don\u2019t readily do or dare to do. We\u2019re afraid of even more pain and sadness. But believe me: sometimes you really do have to go through it to feel so much better afterwards. It\u2019s as if you can breathe more deeply again and feel space throughout your whole body.<\/p><p>And letting go doesn\u2019t happen overnight. It takes time and a great deal of patience. You first need to acknowledge the emotion, feel it fully and work through it. Only then can your body relax and let go of those emotions.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Tips to help with the process of letting go<\/em><\/h2><p><strong>Breathwork<\/strong><br>Breathwork can help release trapped emotions by restoring the connection between body and mind and using deep breathing rhythms to release tension and emotions. By breathing consciously and deeply, you activate the body to break through blockages, reduce stress and achieve a deeper state of relaxation. This can lead to healing and emotional release.<\/p><p><strong>Journaling<\/strong><br>Journaling can help you deal with pent-up emotions by putting your thoughts and feelings down on paper. This leads to greater clarity, self-insight and stress relief. Start by writing for a few minutes a day, without judgement. Make it a routine and try to write at the same time every day. If you continue to cling to these situations or people, you cannot live life to the full.<\/p>\n\n<p>Sometimes it feels as though you\u2019re going through life with your fists clenched. Just constantly fighting against everything and everyone. With open hands, you\u2019re open to life and can receive what is rightfully yours. Sometimes it feels as though your body is clinging to tension, as though your thoughts keep repeating themselves and your heart refuses to soften. You want to feel at peace, but you feel restless. You long for relaxation, but you notice that your muscles remain tense and your breath is shallow in your chest.<\/p>\n\n<p><em>Relieve<\/em> brings you back to yourself, step by step. It isn\u2019t a forceful push, but rather a warm hand that helps you to sink down slowly. From your head to your belly, to your inner centre. You can put a name to them and remember the event as if it were yesterday. But it\u2019s often the case that energy is stuck and you\u2019ve no idea where it\u2019s coming from.<\/p>\n\n<p>Even if you don\u2019t know where the pain is coming from or when it started, it makes no difference to the light frequency. The frequency simply does its job. Anything that\u2019s meant to be released and let go of can be experienced as a feeling of a \u2018weight being lifted from your shoulders\u2019. These energetic cords arise when we take on someone else\u2019s energy or seek something from another person \u2013 for example, dependence, relinquishing our own power, or seeking security outside ourselves.<\/p>\n\n<p>Even old relationships, work contacts or family ties can still drain your energy. Cutting these ties helps you to cleanse yourself energetically and strengthen your inner strength. You\u2019ll feel more freedom and more peace, and your energy can once again flow fully towards what really matters to you. This way, you remain grounded in the here and now and stand fully in your own power.<\/p><\/div><\/div><p>I hope that reading this blog will help you view your emotions with a little more kindness, and that you\u2019ll realise it\u2019s okay to give yourself the space to feel, work through and let go. Remember that letting go is a process, not a race, and that every step, however small, contributes to your inner growth and freedom. Trust in your own strength, be patient with yourself and let the loving energy of the moment support you.
