Elemi is a fresh, resinous scent, with citrus, peppery and slightly spicy notes. The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the resin and is colourless to pale yellow in colour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, due to extensive felling, this tropical tree is now classified as an endangered species. This magnificent tree can grow to a height of 30 metres, and the trunk can reach a circumference of a metre or more, depending on the conditions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This oil-bearing resin, from the Burseraceae family, was widely used in incense and in ointments to promote the discharge of pus, but is now mainly used in varnishes. Elemi was also known to the ancient Egyptians, who used it for embalming bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you use the oil?<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Elemi can be used in various ways. It\u2019s a good, pleasant oil to have at home as it\u2019s very versatile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diffuser or aroma burner<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Use 2 dr. Elemi<\/a> and 2 Drs. Scots Pine<\/a> in a diffuser<\/a> or little burner<\/a> for a lovely forest scent. It\u2019ll help you relax straight away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you feeling stressed? Then combine 3 dr. Elemi with 3 dr. Lavender<\/a> for a bit of relaxation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Inhalation and topical application<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Add 3 drops of Elemi to a bowl of warm water for a steam treatment to relieve a cold. You can also add the essential oil to a base oil<\/a> Apply to the chest and back to relieve a persistent cough and bronchitis. This is due to the expectorant properties of elemi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you feeling stressed? Mix 6 drops of elemi and 3 drops of lavender with a dash of carrier oil and Epsom salt<\/a> and add this to a warm bath. Do take your time and lie back and relax for a good 20 minutes. Make sure you can lie or sit quietly for a while after your bath too. This will help reduce stress and tension. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
