Ginger – an oil you either love or hate… This naturally pure oil has a very powerful and fiery scent. But even if you don’t quite appreciate the scent, its effects are fantastic! Ginger is truly an essential oil you should have in your cupboard. Many people already know what fresh ginger can be used for, but the oil is a different story altogether. And that goes especially for the way you use the oil.
Ginger is good for promoting blood circulation and has a lovely warming effect, making it ideal for use on sore muscles. This powerful oil is also extremely suitable for use on sprains and muscle strains. For rheumatic complaints, ginger can offer relief not only because of its warming properties, but also thanks to its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, which make this essential oil particularly effective for such conditions.

Ginger is also effective for stomach problems. You can use this single oil to help with nausea, loss of appetite and even diarrhoea. Do you suffer from travel sickness? Then why not try ginger! This oil can also help with menstrual complaints such as a delayed period and a cold lower abdomen during your period.
During flu season, this all-natural essential oil is a real must-have for the home. Ginger is incredibly useful for treating cold symptoms, flu and coughs!
On a mental level, ginger can help you if you’re struggling with indecision, forgetfulness or a feeling of coldness around the heart. It gives your inner fire a little boost!
There are quite a few different ways to use ginger. Here are a few tips on how to use it!
Are you feeling tired and exhausted? Why not try mixing 3 dr. of ginger, 3 dr. of orange and 2 dr. of the floral ylang-ylang, and use this in your diffuser or oil burner. Ginger warms you up and rekindles your inner fire, whilst Orange brings a touch of cheer. Ylang Ylang might just help you be a little kinder to yourself 😊.

Use 3 drops of ginger in combination with 3 drops of thyme and 2 drops of aniseed to support the lungs. Particularly during flu season, you may experience a ‘heavy’ feeling in your lungs, accompanied by a cough and shortness of breath. Clear the air with these oils; it will help you breathe a little more freely. You can also use this combination to make a balm. You can simply use coconut oil for this. Melt it gently in a bain-marie in a small saucepan and add the drops. Then pour into a clean jar. Once it has set again, it’s ready to use. Rub it onto your chest and down your back between your shoulder blades if you have a severe cough.
Of course, you could also (if you’re a bit handy at making balms yourself) Cocoa butter and Beeswax use and a base oil such as Grape seed oil.
The blends listed above are also ideal for inhalation. If you have a cold in particular, it’s lovely to have a steam treatment three times a day or to inhale the scent deeply for a moment over the diffuser. Prepare the blend in a empty bottle so that you can take it with you and have a quick sniff every now and then. That way, you’ll also have your blend ready to use straight away in the diffuser.
People are particularly prone to muscle and joint discomfort in cold and damp weather. Make a warming massage oil using 20 ml as a base Sesame oil, add 5 dr of ginger, 4 dr of palmarosa, 4 dr of lavender and 3 dr of cedarwood. Sesame oil also has a warming effect.

Make a gentle ginger scrub to give your skin’s circulation an extra boost. Use fine Himalayan salt and a little coconut oil. Melt 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in a small pan and, once melted, add 3 drops of ginger oil and 2 drops of grapefruit oil. Mix this straight into the exfoliating salt – enough for one exfoliation session. When you exfoliate your skin with this, the coconut oil leaves a lovely soft layer on the skin. This nourishes the skin straight away. Grapefruit is also a really lovely oil to use during a detox.
