
We are often asked which essential oils can be used during or after pregnancy, and how best to use them. As a general rule, we advise against the use of essential oils during pregnancy, as they should only be used with great caution. In particular, if you are at increased risk of miscarriage, you should definitely not use essential oils. Nevertheless, we aim to provide some guidance on this page so that you can make informed choices.
If you’re unsure, a professional aromatherapist can offer you sound advice. We always advise against the internal use of essential oils, particularly during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.
Here are a few tips to help you get started safely.
We strongly advise against using these oils during pregnancy, as they may be harmful to the mother and the unborn child. This also applies, incidentally, to all oils designed to induce menstruation in women with a history of miscarriage and/or premature birth.
Do not use these oils at all for the first 4 months! After that, you can start using them carefully, in small quantities and only when added to a basic massage oil or another one base oil. For example, use a maximum of 2 drops in 20 ml of massage oil or carrier oil for a massage or bath.



Always use these oils in smaller quantities than usual – for example, 2 drops instead of 4, or 3 drops instead of 6. Use them only when diluted, as massage oils or bath oil.
