Kattenoog kwarts, ook wel bekend als Chrysoberyl kattenoogeffect of Cymofan, is een zeldzame edelsteenvariant van het mineraal chrysoberyl. De naam “Kattenoog” verwijst naar het opvallende optische effect dat de steen vertoont: een zilverachtig of goudkleurig lichtstreepje dat over de steen schuift wanneer je hem beweegt, net als de verticale pupil van een kat. Dit fenomeen heet chatoyance, and is caused by needle-shaped inclusions within the stone.
Kattenoog komt vooral voor in landen zoals Sri Lanka, Brazilië, India en Madagaskar, en werd al eeuwenlang gezien als een beschermende talisman tegen het boze oog, ongeluk en negatieve invloeden.
