Why choose a massage oil blend?
A good massage oil blend does more than just smell lovely. The base oil ensures smooth movement during the massage, whilst essential oils help set the mood of the moment. This makes it easier to choose an oil that promotes calm, warmth and grounding, or, conversely, a fresh, invigorating scent experience. The main advantage of a ready-made blend is simple: you don’t have to mix it yourself, and you know in advance exactly what to expect in terms of scent, how it feels on the skin and ease of use. Which blend is right for you?
The best choice often depends on the occasion, the scent you like and the type of massage you want to give or receive.
Relaxing – soft floral, herbal or woody notes go beautifully with a gentle evening massage or a quiet moment of self-care.
Earthy – warm, deep scents create a calm, enveloping atmosphere and are often chosen when you want to consciously slow down.
Free Movement or Warming – fresh and spicy blends are popular after exercise, a lot of walking or an active day.
Neck & Shoulder – crisp fragrance profiles featuring, for example, eucalyptus, rosemary or mint provide a refreshing wellness experience.
Stars & Dreams of Love & Joy – gentler, atmospheric blends are popular for an evening ritual, a couples’ massage or simply to fill the room with a lovely scent.
What should you look for in a good massage oil blend?
The base oil
A fine blend starts with the Base oils for massage. This determines how smoothly the oil glides over the skin, how quickly it is absorbed and what sort of film it leaves behind. For a longer massage, it’s best to use an oil that doesn’t disappear too quickly, but doesn’t feel heavy or sticky either. This ensures the massage remains comfortable and leaves the skin feeling soft afterwards. Would you prefer a spicy kick to your base oil? Then take a look at Macerates.
The fragrance combination
Next comes the character of the blend. Lavender and soft woody notes are often chosen to promote calm. Patchouli, sandalwood and warm, spicy accents create a more grounding scent. Rosemary, eucalyptus, mint and citrus, on the other hand, provide a fresher and brighter experience. A good blend strikes a balance: not too sharp, not too flat, and pleasant enough to work with for a longer period of time.
Making conscious and natural choices
If you’re making a conscious choice, always take a moment to check the list of ingredients. At De Groene Linde, natural quality is key, with blends based on 100% natural ingredients. Do you have sensitive skin, or are you trying a new fragrance for the first time? If so, test a small amount on a small patch of skin first. How to use massage oil comfortably and economically
Start with a small amount of oil. You can always add a bit more.
First, warm the oil briefly between your hands or place the unopened bottle briefly in lukewarm water to make it feel more comfortable on the skin.
Gently apply the oil to dry skin and then massage in using even strokes.
Use the oil externally only and avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes and broken skin. Store the bottle at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.
