Faden quartz is a type of quartz crystal and can be recognised by a distinctive, frayed white line running through the crystal. The name ‘Faden’ comes from German and means ‘thread’, a reference to the thread-like structure within the crystal. This line is formed when the crystal has been broken once or several times and has subsequently healed. The white thread marks the site of this natural healing.
Thread quartz is usually tabular in shape, with the thread always running parallel to the flat sides of the crystal. It is, in fact, an agglomeration of several rock crystals, which means that it not only possesses the healing properties of rock crystal but also adds unique energetic qualities.
Sources and variants
Ribbon quartz is mainly found in Pakistan and the United States. Although it usually consists of clear quartz, rare smoky ribbon quartz crystals were also discovered in Brazil in the 1990s.
