The name Prasiolite is derived from the Greek word chives, which means “leek” or “leek greens”, and lithos, which means “stone”. The name therefore literally means: “leek-green stone”. This refers to the soft, greenish-grey colour of this gemstone, which does indeed resemble a leek or spring onion.
In the world of jewellery, prasiolite is sometimes referred to as ‘green amethyst’, but this is a misleading term. The official name ‘amethyst’ applies only to purple quartz. Prasiolite derives its green colour from its iron content and is formed by heating amethyst. This process can occur naturally through volcanic activity, but also through controlled heating in laboratories or specialised furnaces. The colours range from light green to dark green.
Natural prasiolite is rare. Most stones on the market are amethyst that has turned green as a result of heating or irradiation. A natural prasiolite set in a health pendant carries authentic energy and is therefore considered particularly valuable.
Prasiolite is a transformative gemstone that bridges the gap between the earth and higher energies. At the root chakra, the stone nourishes creative energy. The crown chakra opens up and draws in higher energy. In the heart chakra, earthly and cosmic energies unite, creating balance and harmony.
In shamanic rituals, Prasiolite supports you on journeys to the underworld. This makes it easier to connect with ancestors and deeper spiritual layers. The stone helps you to recognise, break through and let go of ancestral patterns. In addition, Prasiolite supports the processing and resolution of experiences from past lives, thereby helping to neutralise family karma.
Prasiolite offers protection against negative influences and helps to combat physical exhaustion. Thanks to these healing and protective properties, the stone promotes the recovery of body and mind and supports your spiritual growth.
Prasiolite can be cleansed and recharged in any way, but may discolour when exposed to sunlight. Read here more information on cleaning and charging.
