Whilst visiting some of our customers in Belgium, Ton came across a lovely story. He was visiting Marijke Lens, and she spoke with such passion about her connection to our products. It’s so lovely to experience this with our customers! That’s why we asked Marijke if she’d like to write a lovely guest blog for us. And she did so with great care and attention.
When I set up my own practice as a psychologist and hypnotherapist in 2017, I soon realised that I didn’t just want to work in depth on mental health, but that I also wanted broader knowledge and more tools to help people.
This journey led me into the holistic world of aromatherapy, aura sprays and flower remedies. At first, I found it all very interesting and tried it out for myself. Every now and then, I made my first fragrance stick using essential oils to give to clients.
During my third pregnancy in 2020, I suddenly became incredibly sensitive to everything that isn’t tangible. The little angelic soul growing inside me literally opened up my crown chakra, and I began to feel better – and, above all, to believe unconditionally in energy.
From that moment on, De Groene Linde clearly crossed my path, and I enjoyed discovering their fantastic and wide range of products. Quite a task, given everything they offer. Over the past few years, I’ve used many of their aromatherapy ranges and remedies to gradually discover what works best in practice.
I absolutely love working with De Groene Linde because you can really sense that everything is just right. The composition of the fragrance, the design of the bottles and the names given to them all perfectly match the theme the fragrance is based on. You can feel, with every fibre of your being and your entire energy, that something begins to flow when you spray one of their fragrances.
Today I hung a few wooden planks next to my therapy chair, featuring all the scents from De Groene Linde, which really do seem to be tailor-made for the mental health topics that regularly come up in therapy.
Even before a client arrives, I intuitively pick an aura spray from the shelf and use it to prepare the room and the session. It will come as no surprise that this has actually enabled me to predict the theme or the client’s need for the therapy session.
If it’s more of an earthy scent, such as ‘Mother Earth’, I know that a lot of anxiety or fears will be discussed. If I choose the ‘Inner Child’, then I can start exploring the roots of the client’s current symptoms in their childhood. Or when the ‘Self-love’ is discussed, there is often a limiting belief or emotion attached to this part of the heart.
The ‘Abundance’ and the ‘Amber’, lovely sweet scents – I use them regularly to create a positive atmosphere that we can then build on.
During the session, we therefore carry out exercises and I record an audio track for hypnotherapy. I always use a suitable scent to support the body and mind energetically as well.
If necessary, people are given the aura spray to take home with them, so that they can really anchor the scent through the exercise we’ve done. Suppose, for example, we’re working on setting boundaries with others, and actually feeling and radiating those boundaries in your energy.
Then I use the chakra aura spray for the solar plexus or the frequency of the odour Protection. They both have a ‘spiky’ note to their scent, due to the Silver Fir or the Scots Pine in it. I then explain that those little spines enable you to keep other people’s energy at bay, just like the ‘Little hedgehog’ in the children’s range.
The children's range, that’s actually my favourite range. I often work with highly sensitive people (HSPs), and you notice that the gentleness of the scents in that children’s range often resonates much better with them. Not a single scent is too strong; they’re all gently healing.
In addition to the ‘Lion’s Strength’ When it comes to self-confidence, I make the most use of the ‘Little Elephant, the ‘Egeltje’ and the ‘Little whale’. The Elephant stands firmly with its feet on the ground, well grounded. The Little Hedgehog helps you to guard your boundaries, and you can use the Little Whale to wash away all energies that are not your own and to sink completely into your own energy.
I have also chakra Aura sprays on my shelves, because they actually cover all aspects of mental health: from grounding to emotional awareness, boundaries and love, to standing up for yourself, listening to your inner voice, and finding peace of mind.
Also from the Golden Oldies I have a few of them here, because the protection of the archangel Michael or the maternal love of Maria can provide just the right kind of energy to help people grow.
As a big fan of Atlantis and Lemuria, and the feeling of being connected to it, I’ve also tried all the aura sprays from the places of power nearby.
So during therapy, I mainly use the aura sprays. I use the essential oils to make a scent stick on the spot, which clients can then carry in their handbag, in the car or at work. That way, there’s always a way to use scents as a first line of support. By listening to the audio again and linking the scent to the exercise, the scent stick literally becomes an anchor for calm. This allows you, for example, to find calm rather than fear in a particular situation.
You’ve got the picture: I’m a huge fan of the energy at De Groene Linde and what their scents mean in the context of mental health and counselling.
