Tips for looking after your diffuser

It’s lovely to have a diffuser running at home with your favourite scent! It’s a really lovely way to use essential oils. But over time, you’ll notice some residue from the oily oils left on the inside of the diffuser. You’ll notice this quite quickly, especially with frequent use, and certainly when using the thicker, syrupy oils. But how do you diffuser Make sure you clean and look after it properly so that your diffuser lasts a long time! Cleaning your diffuser. In this blog, you’ll find plenty of tips to help you get the most out of your diffuser 😉.

Everyday use

Perhaps your diffuser is giving off a lovely mist every day, but did you know that you should also give it a quick clean every day? Cleaning your diffuser. It sounds like a bit of a chore, but it’s actually not that bad at all!

After use, unplug the diffuser from the socket and, if necessary, pour out any remaining water from the diffuser. Dry the inside of the diffuser with a clean, dry cotton cloth. Alternatively, use a piece of kitchen roll. Take care not to damage the ultrasonic chip at the bottom centre of the diffuser. This is very sensitive, so clean it gently with the cloth without applying too much pressure.

Monthly maintenance of your diffuser

If you use the diffuser every day, it might be a good idea to give it a clean a bit more often. Twice a month is certainly not an unnecessary luxury 😊. But with ‘normal’ use, you can give the diffusers in your home a thorough clean once a month.

Cleaning the diffuser

⇢ Fill the diffuser with lukewarm tap water.
⇢ Next, add a small splash of cleaning vinegar. This will dissolve any residual oil and also descale the diffuser straight away. You may wish to use cooled boiled water.
⇢ Switch on the diffuser for about 30 minutes. It’s best to do this outside when the weather’s nice, because of the smell of the cleaning vinegar. Otherwise, switch on the diffuser under the extractor hood. Do make sure the diffuser is standing firmly and upright. If necessary, place a small chopping board underneath it to ensure it doesn’t tip over.
⇢ After 30 minutes, switch the diffuser off again and unplug it from the socket. Pour any remaining water out of the diffuser. Take care to pour it out on the correct side. In our bamboo diffuser, this is indicated on the inside with a red arrow. This ensures that no water runs down the diffuser and into the buttons.
⇢ If necessary, use a cotton bud to gently clean the edges and the chip. If needed, dip the cotton bud briefly in undiluted white vinegar to tackle stubborn and dirty patches.
⇢ Now fill the diffuser with lukewarm water and leave it on for another 15 minutes.
⇢ Next, pour the remaining water out of the diffuser and dry the inside thoroughly with a clean, dry cotton cloth.
⇢ Give the outside of the diffuser and the cover a quick wipe with a cloth to freshen them up.
⇢ There is a small air vent at the bottom of the diffuser. This is how the diffuser draws in fresh air. But, of course, dust also ends up in the vent. You can remove this by briefly running the hoover on a gentle setting over the grille. Using a handheld hoover is particularly handy! It’s a good idea to remove the dust a bit more often by simply blowing into the grille once a week.
