There are various ways to use scent frequencies and essential oils. You can spray a scent around you, apply a roller to your skin, diffuse a few drops, or add an essential oil blend to a foot bath or massage oil.
Which method suits you best depends on what you want to experience, where you want to use the scent, and which product form feels most comfortable at that moment. There isn’t one single application that’s always better. The same scent can be experienced very differently as an aura spray than as a roller or an essential oil blend.
At De Groene Linde, we invite you to make a conscious choice. Not just with your head, but also by taking a moment to consider the scent, the theme and what you need at that moment.
Essential oils are concentrated, aromatic compounds extracted from plants, flowers, herbs, wood, fruits or resins. Each single essential oil has its own distinctive scent and properties.
At De Groene Linde, we look not only at the scent and practical uses of essential oils, but also at how a scent can affect us on a personal and energetic level. A scent can, for example, invite you to relax, pause, let go, ground yourself or focus your attention on a particular aspect of life.
The scent frequencies developed by Marianne are blends of various 100% naturally pure essential oils. Each blend has been created with knowledge, experience, intuition and care, centred around its own theme.
So you can work with:
• a single essential oil, such as lavender, lemon or frankincense
• a blended essential oil mix from De Groene Linde
• a fragrance blend as an aura spray
• a ready-to-use roller
• a special product from, for example, the Children’s Range, New Mums Range or Linde Care Range
An aura spray is used on the energy field around you. Hold the bottle about an arm’s length above your head and spray a few times above your head and beside your shoulders. Close your eyes, stand still for a moment and let the mist settle around you.
Use this moment to notice how the scent affects you. There’s no need to force anything. Sometimes you experience something straight away; other times, you only realise later that a scent has moved you or that a particular theme requires more attention.
A suitable aura spray can also be used as a room spray. Spray a few times around the room and allow the scent time to spread. Always check the label and the product page to see if a spray is suitable for the way you wish to use it. The instructions for using an aura spray are in line with Marianne’s explanation in Linde Talk.
Choose an aura spray when you:
• want to use the scent around you
• want to create a moment of deliberate rest
• want to focus on a particular area
• is looking for a practical and ready-to-use format
A roller is a ready-to-use blend of essential oil and jojoba. You can apply it directly to suitable areas of the skin, such as the wrists, the nape of the neck, the throat or the soles of the feet. Do not use a roller containing mint near the eyes.
The roller stays close to you and is easy to carry around. This makes it ideal for when you’re out and about, at work, at school or during a moment of deliberate relaxation. Some rollers are designed for a specific location or a particular theme. You should therefore always read the instructions for use that come with the product.
Choose a roller when you:
• you want to wear the fragrance close to your skin
• you want to use the fragrance topically throughout the day
• looking for a product that fits easily into a bag or jacket pocket
• do not wish to use a diffuser or spray
A bottle of pure essential oil or a blended essential oil offers the greatest flexibility. You can diffuse a few drops, apply the oil to a scented stick, or mix it into a carrier oil, bath or foot bath according to a suitable recipe.
The pure blend is particularly suitable if you like to choose for yourself how to use the fragrance. Marianne describes this format as a versatile choice, as a single bottle can be used in a variety of ways.
Never apply pure essential oil to the skin undiluted, and do not ingest essential oil.
There are various ways to make your choice.
For example, start with a topic that’s on your mind at the moment, such as:
• grounds
• relax
• letting go
• protect
• self-confidence
• peace of mind
• sleep
• personal development
Next, take your time to read through the descriptions of the scent frequencies associated with this theme. Note which name, text or composition catches your attention.
The fragrance that suits you best isn’t necessarily the one you find most appealing straight away. A fragrance can also evoke a sense of resistance or touch on something you hadn’t consciously considered before. According to Marianne’s philosophy, it is precisely in this that personal meaning can lie. Are you unsure whether to choose a spray, a roller or an oil blend?
Then ask yourself:
• Do I want to experience the scent around me? If so, choose an aura spray.
• Do I want to keep the fragrance close to me? If so, choose a roll-on.
• Do I want to use it in a diffuser or make my own products? If so, choose a pure essential oil blend.
• Do I mainly want to create a certain atmosphere in a room? If so, choose a diffuser, scented sticks or a suitable room spray.
Use approximately 5 to 10 drops of essential oil in an electric diffuser or aroma burner for adults and young people aged 12 and over. Adjust the amount according to the size of the room, the strength of the oil and your own sensitivity to scent.
It’s best to start with just a little. You can always add another drop later. More fragrance doesn’t automatically mean more support.
Ensure there is adequate ventilation and do not leave a diffuser on for longer than necessary. Also bear in mind other people and animals in the room.
A scented stick or porous scented stone is a simple way to allow essential oil to evaporate gently. Use around 5 to 8 drops and place the stick near your workspace, next to your bed or in another suitable spot.
This method is suitable if you do not wish to use a diffuser or if you only want to enjoy the scent in a small area.
A foot bath is a peaceful and mindful moment to work with a scent frequency.
Usage:
• a bowl of pleasantly warm water
• 2 tablespoons of Himalayan salt
• a dash of base oil, such as almond oil
• 3 to 5 drops of essential oil or scent frequency
First mix the essential oil with the carrier oil and the salt, then add the mixture to the water. Sit back and relax for about 15 to 20 minutes.
A foot bath is ideal as part of an evening routine, a moment of tranquillity, or when you want to consciously work on a theme such as grounding or letting go. In the Inspiration Magazine Marianne also recommends 3 to 5 drops combined with Himalayan salt and a carrier oil.
Essential oil does not mix with water on its own. You should therefore never add it directly to the bath water.
To make a full bath, mix:
• 3 heaped tablespoons of Himalayan salt
• a dash of base oil
• 10 to 15 drops of essential oil
Add the mixture to the bath water and stir it in well. Use fewer drops if you are sensitive to scents, and check beforehand that the oil you have chosen is suitable for use in the bath.
Never apply essential oil undiluted to the skin. Always mix the oil with a suitable carrier oil.
For adults, use a maximum of 25 drops of essential oil per 100 ml of carrier oil. It is best to start with fewer drops and assess how the scent and the blend feel first.
If you have sensitive skin, first test a small amount on a small area of skin. Do not automatically use the same dilution for children, during pregnancy, for frail elderly people or in cases of specific health conditions as you would for healthy adults.
Children are often more sensitive to smells and need less than adults.
You should therefore always check:
• the child’s age
• the composition of the product
• the specified application
• the quantity
• the information on the label and the product page
The Kinderlijn range is categorised into different age groups. Some sprays are alcohol-free and have a particularly mild formulation. Other sprays are only suitable for younger children as room sprays and can only be used as aura sprays from a later age.
When using products on children, only use ones that are suitable for their age. Start small and make the scent part of a calming, familiar moment. For example, a scent can become part of a familiar routine around going to school, coming home, going to sleep or trying something new. Within the Children’s Range, the guiding principle is: less is more.
Do not allow young children to handle loose bottles of essential oil on their own. Keep all products tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
Not all essential oils are suitable during pregnancy. Choose one gentle application, use only a small amount and do not combine several applications on the same day. Always check the label and the contraindications for the product.
We recommend using products from the New Moms range, which has been specially developed for this purpose. If you are in any doubt, or if you have any health concerns or are taking medication, we advise you to consult a doctor or other qualified healthcare professional first.
Essential oils are highly concentrated. Conscious and careful use is therefore always essential when working with scent frequencies.
Important guidelines:
• Do not ingest essential oil.
• Do not apply pure essential oil to the skin undiluted.
• Follow the dosage instructions on the label and the product page.
• Store products in a cool, dark place, in a tightly sealed container and out of the reach of children.
• Avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.
• Take note of any personal contraindications, allergies and sensitivities.
• Only use products suitable for children’s age.
• Take extra care during pregnancy, whilst breastfeeding, and if you have any health concerns or are taking medication.
• Use scent frequencies as a complement to, rather than a substitute for, medical care.
If swallowed, if it comes into contact with the eyes, or if an unexpected reaction occurs, it is important to seek professional advice immediately and follow the instructions on the label.
A single essential oil is derived from a single plant or raw material. A De Groene Linde fragrance blend is usually a composition of various 100% naturally pure essential oils, developed by Marianne around a specific energetic or personal theme.
The underlying scent frequency may be the same, but the way you experience it differs. You use a spray around you or in a room. A roller stays close to your body. You can diffuse a pure essential oil blend or use it in a suitable recipe.
You can do that, but it’s best not to mix too many different themes together. Make a conscious choice of one or a few scent profiles and give yourself time to experience how they affect you. Less is more.
That depends on the product form. An aura spray can be used as and when required. For roll-ons, pure essential oils, diffusers and topical applications, you should always follow the dosage and instructions for use specified for the product in question.
Not always. Sometimes a scent appeals to you straight away. Sometimes a scent provokes a negative reaction or touches on an issue that needs attention. Choose carefully and don’t force anything. A different product form can also make a difference.
Many aura sprays can also be used as room sprays. However, always check the product information. In the case of children, a spray may initially only be suitable for use as a room spray and only become suitable as an aura spray once they reach a certain age.
No. Always mix pure essential oil with a suitable carrier oil, or use a ready-to-use roll-on in which the oil has already been properly diluted.
Start with a very small amount and choose a subtle way of using it, such as a scented stick placed at a distance. In line with De Groene Linde’s philosophy, you can also carry a sealed bottle with you if the scent is too intense. This is an energetic application based on your own perspective and does not constitute a medically or scientifically proven effect.
Not every product is suitable for every age group. Please refer to the age guidelines for the Children’s Range and always follow the instructions on the product page and the label.
No. Scent frequencies are intended to complement moments of mindfulness, self-care and personal development. They are not a substitute for a doctor’s diagnosis, treatment or advice.
