Apache Tear is a variety of obsidian. The name ‘Apache Tear’ comes from an old tale about an Apache tribe that was pursued by the cavalry. According to legend, soldiers drove the warriors to a steep cliff face, from which they plunged to their deaths. The Apache women wept dark tears of sorrow. These tears are said to have solidified into the teardrop-shaped stones that were later found in that area: the Apache Tear.
