The name Chrysocolla comes from Greek and literally means “golden glue” (from chrysos = gold and kolla = glue). This refers to the use of this stone in ancient times, when it was used as a kind of natural glue to bond gold and other metals together.

Chrysocolla is found in various parts of the world, including Peru, the United States (Arizona and Nevada), Chile, the Congo and Russia. The finest and most intensely coloured specimens often come from South America. The stone usually forms as a secondary mineral in copper deposits, which often gives it a stunning blue-green colour.
