Experience the pure quality of Fine Lavender AOP essential oil from Provence, the heart of France. This premium oil comes from the Lavandula angustifolia, the real lavender that grows on sun-drenched hillsides.
The AOP (Appellation d’Origine Protégée) certification guarantees that the oil comes from a specific region and meets strict quality standards. Only producers from the French departments of Drôme, Vaucluse, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Hautes-Alpes are permitted to supply this oil. The lavender must be grown at an altitude of at least 800 metres.
Of the total annual production of around 100 tonnes of lavender oil, less than 10 tonnes are awarded the AOP certification. This makes this oil particularly exclusive.
In Provence, growers cultivate and harvest lavender using traditional methods. This ensures that the fragrance and quality are preserved to the highest standard. Steam distillation of the flowering tops produces a gentle, floral and harmonious fragrance that promotes calm and balance.
AOP means that the lavender must come from a specific geographical area, such as Provence in France. This region has the perfect climate for lavender, and the use of AOP certification guarantees that the lavender is grown and distilled using traditional methods. This not only ensures that the oil is pure and of excellent quality, but also protects the region’s cultural heritage.
The lavender flowers are processed immediately after harvesting, whilst they are still fresh. This is important, as it ensures that the volatile compounds are retained as effectively as possible. The sooner distillation takes place after harvesting, the better the quality of the oil. The flowers are placed in a copper or stainless steel still. Hot steam is then passed through the plant material at low pressure. This steam opens the tiny oil glands in the flowers, releasing the essential oil. The pressure used is lower than in industrial lavandin production, ensuring that the oil retains a gentler and more complex fragrance. As AOP lavender comes from a small area and is processed with care, the yield is limited, but the quality is exceptionally high. Due to this process and the limited yield, the oil is more expensive than other types of lavender.
The effects of this Lavender Fine AOP oil are similar to those of lavender oil.
