Description
The city was also built in a remarkable location, high up in the mountains, where it was difficult to transport stones and building materials. The city is constructed from unique stones, each with multiple faces that fit together perfectly, like a sort of three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle. In some walls, stones with twelve faces have been found, and at other sites even stones with forty faces. To this day, it remains a mystery how the Incas carved the stones. The Inca Empire came to an end in the sixteenth century when the Spanish reached South America.
Machu Picchu was of great spiritual significance. It was an extensive complex of palaces, observatories, temples and dwellings. Machu Picchu means 'Great Mountain and Male Peak'. There is something magical about the energy of this place. Some people who have visited the site experience the energy of the 'inner earth', whilst others feel as though they can 'download' ancient knowledge.
