The name "moonstone" comes from the fact that the stone’s surface has a soft, pearlescent sheen reminiscent of moonlight. This sheen is also known as the ‘moonlight effect’ (or adularescence). The stone is found in countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Brazil and Australia.
