Pinolite, also known as Pinolith, is a rare and unique gemstone found exclusively in the Austrian Alps. The stone is a natural combination of magnesite, dolomite and graphite (carbon), and is known for its distinctive pattern resembling pine nuts, which lie in white-grey veins embedded in a dark matrix. Pinolite owes its name to this visual appearance: 'pino' refers to the pine-nut-like structure.
