A tektite is a remarkable and mysterious little stone that literally and figuratively falls from the sky. The name comes from the Greek tektos, which means ‘melted’. This refers directly to the stone’s formation. Tektites are formed when a meteorite strikes the Earth. The enormous heat and pressure released during this process cause terrestrial materials to melt. They are hurled into the air and then fall back to the ground in glass-like forms. It is during this process that the irregular shape and bubble-like structure so characteristic of tektites are formed.
Tektites can be found in various places around the world, particularly in areas where meteorite impacts occurred long ago. South-East Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Laos) is known for the dark variety, also known as Indochinite. Other well-known forms are Moldavite from the Czech Republic and Australian from Australia. They each have their own energy, but share the same primal force: the meeting of heaven and earth.
On a spiritual level, many people regard Tektite as a stone for expanding consciousness and transformation. As the stone has both an extraterrestrial and an earthly origin, it forms a bridge between these worlds. It helps you to connect with higher levels of consciousness, other dimensions and beings of light. At the same time, it keeps you firmly grounded.
Whether you’re seeking healing, spiritual growth or a connection with higher dimensions: Tektite carries a piece of the universe within it and reminds you that you are more than you realise.
Tektite can be cleansed and recharged in all sorts of ways. Read here on cleaning and charging.
