Chakras, the centres of our energy body; the sixth chakra

As you can see in the blog post about the first chakra As you may have read, chakras are spinning ‘wheels’ of energy within our energy body. When these chakras are in harmony, you feel at ease with yourself, you move effortlessly with the flow of life and you stand firmly on your own two feet. In this blog, you can read all about the third eye chakra.

Blockages in a chakra can manifest as physical symptoms, poor sleep or a general sense of unease or imbalance. But how do you know if there is a blockage?

To help you with this, we’ve written this blog series! There’s a separate blog for each chakra, in which we explain:

  • what the chakra represents,
  • how a properly functioning chakra manifests itself,
  • and what symptoms might arise when the flow of energy is disrupted.

We also, of course, provide practical tips

The sixth chakra, the third eye chakra

The sixth chakra is called, in Sanskrit, Ajna known as, which means “knowledge”, “perception” or “command centre”. This chakra is the centre of insight, intuition and inner wisdom.

The third eye, also known as the forehead chakra, enables you to see beyond the physical world. It helps you connect with your inner knowing, dreams, visions and spiritual awareness. This is the gateway to your intuition, imagination and clear perception.

The Ajna chakra is connected to the brain, the eyes, sleep and the nervous system. It influences your mental clarity, memory, sleep patterns and spiritual connection. It also plays a role in your ability to perceive situations, people and yourself objectively and in depth.

Balance and imbalance

⊕ A balanced third eye chakra brings mental calm, deep intuition and clear insight. You trust your inner voice and have the confidence to make choices based on your feelings. You have an open mind, a vivid imagination and a strong sense of direction and meaning in your life.

⊖ When this chakra is out of balance, you may feel confused, restless or cut off from your intuition. You may find it difficult to concentrate, doubt yourself or quickly lose track of things. You may suffer from worrying thoughts, headaches, sleep problems or eye problems.

If your third eye chakra is overactive, you may find yourself dreaming excessively, becoming a bit of a dreamer, or losing yourself in fantasies, theories or spiritual ideas. You may then find it difficult to keep both feet on the ground and to apply your intuitive insights practically in everyday life.

Tips!

Focus your attention on your forehead, the area of the third eye chakra. This centre of intuition and inner knowing calls for gentleness and stillness. Try gentle exercises such as the child’s pose (Balasana) or a gentle head turn to release tension in the forehead and temples. Simply closing your eyes gently and directing your gaze softly inwards also creates space.

Sit comfortably, place your index and middle fingers lightly on your forehead or gently between your eyebrows, and take a deep breath. Visualise a deep, indigo-purple glow extending around your third eye and say to yourself:
“I trust my inner wisdom.”
“My intuition guides me clearly.”
“I see the truth behind things.”
“My mind is open and calm.”
Repeat these sentences mindfully and feel your insight and clarity grow.

Meditation, visualisations and gentle sounds such as the OM mantra can naturally stimulate the third eye chakra. Take the time to be still and listen to what your inner voice is telling you.

Additional tips

Crystals that strengthen the third eye chakra include:
Amethyst, Sodalite, Lepidolite, Fluorite, Labradorite
These stones help to open up your intuition, stimulate clairvoyance and promote inner peace, so that you can access your inner knowing more easily.

Essential oils that support the third eye chakra include:
Lavender, Incense, Sandalwood, Salie, Cedar wood
These oils calm the mind, promote clarity and encourage deeper meditation. You can also use the ‘Third Eye’ scent from our special chakra range.
Use them in a diffuser or aroma burner, or apply a few drops, diluted, to your temples or your third eye (between your eyebrows) to activate your intuitive powers.

Indigo, the colour of the third eye chakra

Use the colour indigo to activate and balance the third eye chakra.

  • Drink elderflower or hibiscus tea for inner peace and clarity.
  • Wear indigo or purple clothing, scarves or accessories near your head, such as a hairband or earrings.
  • Gaze peacefully at the starry sky, or close your eyes and visualise the deep indigo colour filling your forehead.
  • Write down your dreams and intuitive thoughts, or draw any symbols that come to mind.

Visualise a radiant indigo sphere between your eyebrows, pulsing gently. Feel the light spreading through your head and body, opening your mind and strengthening your inner wisdom.
