The fourth chakra is called, in Sanskrit, Anahata . This literally means “undamaged” or “unblemished sound”. It refers to the infinite love and compassion present in every human being, independent of the ego, judgement or expectation.
The heart chakra is the centre of love, connection and harmony. It forms the bridge between the lower three physical chakras and the upper spiritual chakras. This is where the earthly meets the spiritual. It is about unconditional love – for yourself, for others, and for life itself.
This fourth chakra is connected to the heart, the lungs, the chest, the thymus gland and the immune system. It also influences your breathing and your ability to love and connect with others.
⊕ A balanced heart chakra fosters an open and loving attitude. You are able to both give and receive love. You also feel compassion, forgiveness, empathy and gratitude. Your relationships are nurturing, genuine and respectful. Your heart is open, but with healthy boundaries.
⊖ If the fourth chakra is out of balance, you may struggle with intimacy or shut yourself off emotionally. You may experience feelings of sadness, loneliness or bitterness. It can be difficult to forgive yourself or others. Physically, symptoms may include palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pain, high blood pressure or problems with the immune system.
If your heart chakra is overactive, you may lose yourself in others, try too hard to please them, or become emotionally dependent. You feel responsible for other people’s happiness, at the expense of your own.

“I give love and receive love.”
“My heart is open and I feel safe.”
“I find it easy to forgive myself and others.”
Repeat these sentences mindfully and feel the energy flowing through your heart area.
