Kundalini is a concept from ancient Indian spiritual traditions, particularly from Tantra and yoga. The word kundalini comes from Sanskrit and literally means “rolled up” or “spiral-shaped”. It refers to a form of life energy which, according to these traditions, is present in every human being.
This energy is symbolically represented as a snake coiled at the base of the spine, near the root chakra.
In yoga philosophy, kundalini energy flows through a central energy channel in the body, the Sushumna nadi, past the seven main chakras:

Would you like to find out more about the different chakras? We’ve written detailed blog posts on each chakra especially for you. You can easily find them by clicking on the links for the relevant chakra above.
When kundalini awakens, this energy is said to rise step by step through these chakras, which can lead to expanded consciousness, inner growth and spiritual insight.
A kundalini awakening is described as this energy becoming active. People experience this in very different ways. You may feel a powerful energy flowing through your body, accompanied by a sensation of warmth or physical sensations such as tingling. Or old emotional patterns may surface that you need to work through. But there are also people who experience heightened intuition or clarity. It’s as if the fog has lifted and you can see life clearly.
Although kundalini is often described in positive terms, we would like to emphasise that it is important to awaken this energy gradually or under the guidance of a qualified teacher. Intense experiences can be confusing if you are not prepared for them. We therefore recommend practising kundalini exercises with respect and mindfulness, and, where possible, under the guidance of an experienced teacher.
To support you during this awakening, you can make use of the Kundalini scent frequency. This frequency helps you to stay firmly grounded and not lose yourself. Patchouli is a powerful oil for this purpose. Mandarin and lemon add a touch of lightness and refresh the mind. Reggio bergamot supports the heart chakra, where earthly and spiritual energies merge.
Black spruce is a very special oil – as you can read here – and helps you to remain grounded whilst remaining open to the source. This is because the black spruce in Canada has roots that reach no less than 14 metres into the ground, whilst its tall tops reach high into the sky, tapping into the energy of the magnificent natural phenomenon known as the Northern Lights.

This lovely fragrance is available as an aura spray, essential oil and roll-on. Usage Use the spray sparingly and very mindfully at the start of this process. So don’t just quickly spray the aura spray before you take the children to school or before you get in the car to go to work. Kundalini energy cannot be awakened by willpower alone; it really is a process that unfolds at your own pace. When you begin the process of awakening, it’s best to start at a quiet moment with a lovely ritual.
This ritual can be performed once or twice a week. The aim is not to generate energy, but to create space so that the kundalini can move safely.
There are a number of beautiful crystals you can carry with you to support you during this process – crystals that are linked to the chakras. At De Groene Linde, we have a beautiful Chakra Crystal Set put together especially for you. This set contains seven crystals that you can use to help clear any blockages in specific chakras. Carry the crystal with you, hold it in your hand during the ritual, or lie down and place the corresponding crystal on each chakra.

Serpentine – Serpentine is often referred to as the “kundalini stone” because it is traditionally used to support the kundalini energy. The stone helps to guide the energy from the base of the spine and promotes a smooth, stable flow through the body. Serpentine can also aid relaxation, grounding and the release of blockages, making it easier to work consciously with the body’s natural energy flow. Carry this stone with you to support the process.
Be aware of the energy you carry within you…
